It’s surprising that this article doesn’t mention LGBT or disabilities at all. The same effect extends to those two. And, in the same vein, it’s females “buying” it.

Only assholes* use "female" as a noun.

"Female" is primarily a scientific or biological term that refers to sex, not gender. When used as a noun for humans, it reduces women to their reproductive capabilities and strips away their individuality and humanity, making them seem less than fully human or equivalent to animals. For example, "female" can refer to any species, while "woman" specifically refers to human beings.

Here it's clearly being used in a derogatory, dismissive sense.
