It’s surprising that this article doesn’t mention LGBT or disabilities at all. The same effect extends to those two. And, in the same vein, it’s females “buying” it.

Oooh, boy. Almost no-one wants to talk about it because it's considered harmful (or even taboo) to blame being gay and especially being trans on social contagion and similar phenomena.

If you point out that a controversial phenomenon is very dependent on social elements, you also invite discussions whether something should be fine-tuned in our society to influence it, which turns into a political issue.
