Holy plate of shrimp: I just built a small Dyson Sphere around a black hole, all by myself! Not quite as big and majestic as these though:

In case you don't know what Dyson Sphere Program is -- think 3D Factorio in Space:

Katherine of Sky has some great DPS videos, and she also plays lots of Factorio and Satisfactory too:

I've got Dyson Sphere on my backlog; at the moment I finally budget and bought Satisfactory, it looks really well fleshed out at the moment and it'll take me hours and hours of more work to lay out my factory just to get the second package up the space elevator. Love it.

Good choice. DSP is a bit more for the veteran, you kind of have to obsess over this genre to enjoy DSP.

Satisfactory can be enjoyed by a wider audience, however. As can Factorio.

I am at the stage of producing the warp tokens but I don't feel like going back to it, don't know why.

For some reason DSP is not hooking me as much as Factorio

Satisfactory is an incredible game. Maybe my favorite of the last two years. And it isn’t even completed. Beautiful, coherent, well optimized, unbelievably huge content, without limits to the player’s creativity.

If anyone reading this loved building factories in factorio and building huge buildings in Minecraft, try Satisfactory now.

To me, space is not static. Black holes, as probably all objects in space, are continuously moving and rotating. I don't think gravity waves are fully understood. I doubt they would be constant for black holes. There would also be continuous ingestion of objects from afar, small or large. So with all these volatilities, how would one maintain a stable orbit to construct the sphere adjusting for tsunamis of gravity waves, bombardments by objects passing or entering the black holes, and flares of radiation escaping from the center? And what could one do to make sure the black hole stays in the center of the sphere? It's a logistical nightmare.

Not sure what I was watching in that first linked video but it was pretty mesmerizing.

It could be the nature of the progression through the games, but I think there's a "what a grind" plateau in the arc of both games, and I would guess it comes at about the 60% in both (for me)

If you haven't played DSP since they introduced blueprints, I'd encourage you to give it a revisit. Although ironically the mass deconstruction in Factorio is equally handy but is still missing in DSP, which can make any rework still be a grind

EVERY SINGLE ONE of those little dots you see is a solar sail or a rocket that you manufactured out of MANY more bits and pieces of other high tech and raw materials that you mined and refined and assembled from multiple solar systems of planets covered in mega-factories and mazes of conveyor belts and drones and cargo rockets with warp drive!
13. DonHopkins ◴[] No.28234742[source]
Or a logistical game. That's exactly what Dyson Sphere Project is all about.

Oh snap, when did blueprints get added to DSP?

I bought it about a week after it became available on Steam and played it all the way through (Unlocked the last item in the tech tree) and wanted to try again with some different gameplay options, but not until blueprints were implemented. I must have missed the announcement.

Think it was about a month ago. I was going to wait another month or so to jump back in and try again and let them work the kinks out. It should be very handy for making mining rigs as I was using the same pattern over and over for that. I liked the tower thing they have as that about mid game really changed how to build construction chains. I was thinking of adding in one of the deconstruction mods to get raw stuff back. But I am not sure. Probably one of the big items you may notice if you jump back in is they radically changed the way oil works and it is more in line with the other materials.

I didn't know blueprints were added! The lack of them is why I stopped soon after traveling to another planet. I might give it another try now...

I've made it a little bit past that point, where I have the warp tokens, but I have to manually fly to neighbouring systems....and that's where I stopped playing. It's just not fun. It takes a few minutes of real time just sitting there doing nothing while you fly, only to set up some ships moving at equally glacial speed to move something that optimizes an extremely small element of your factory. All while further and perhaps more interesting systems are simply out of your reach without advancing everything past yet another tier.

I've poured about 60 hours into this game and I'm done. Back to Satisfactory for me.

Its a pretty great "asynchonous multiplayer" game as well - My friends and I had a server going for a few weeks and we'd log on when we could. Had a central 'mall' area, but everyone branched off and build their own projects which mined and manufactured items and sent them in towards the core. Was quite delightful to log in and realize your friend had built 100MW of additional power since you played the previous evening :-D

I haven't pressed Follow in Steam or anything, but the updates come through as expected, and when an update shows up on the Downloads screen, it has a "View News" under each one that takes me to the "what's new" page for each game

DSP's is https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1366540 and the update in question is https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1366540/view/3008952...

They also added some kind of global scoreboard system (Milky Way) if one is into that kind of thing and want a bigger challenge that just "local universe automation nivrana": https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1366540/view/3044975...

They alleged to have released some portion of the source code (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1366540/view/5694225...) in order to make mods easier, but there is some massive confusion about where, exactly, one can find such a thing and I'm evidently too old to find my way around Discord

> It should be very handy for making mining rigs as I was using the same pattern over and over for that

It's for sure a game-changer(!) for "welcome to this new planet with some iron and copper next to each other: let me cook some interesting resource that I need (e-mag are my go-to because it seems one can never have enough of those)

As a QoL improvement, it's also handy for "oh, look: titanium -- let the drones lay out 15 smelters with their power poles to exfiltrate that resource"

Some of the screenshots folks have done about power production are insaneo -- to the point their GPU starts to drag from the game ticks :-)

oh yeah power. may need 2 sets of blue prints one with and without power. Or maybe just a 'power grid print'. hmm have to think about it. As mid game once you get part of sphere going the way you get power really changes. for me it is those pink crystals that are my bottle neck. which is part of not having enough acid I think. been a few months since I touched it. another project is in the way at the moment before I can touch it again.
