There was this notion of psychiatry promoting conformity back in the 1960s, and while that has diminished, I detect conformist tendencies in this writer. Stuff like social isolation and magical thinking can be the result of cultural forces. (In some parts of the world, magical thinking is still the norm.) Urban environments can also be antisocial for a number of reasons despite high population density.
