They should be analog/DAB AM (535-1705 kHz) and weather (162.4-162.55 MHz) radios. The latter contain region-specific headers (SAME codes) to limit false alerts. Most people are much too dependent on smartphone only local commercial apps and IPAWS, and don't have a secondary channel for authoritative emergency notification like stationary weather radios used to serve. There's also no reason there couldn't be a compact, add-on weather radio for vehicles. For a generic vehicle AM/FM/wx radio, something like a Jensen Heavy Duty JHD22B head unit would work.

Unfortunately we use the proprietary HD Radio spec in the US. The company requires paying a license to use it and so many stations and manufacturers don't support it.

I wish we used DAB instead.
