I don't get it. Humanoids are a really crappy shape for a lot of tasks, and the only benefit seems to be the ability to pay people to walk around in motion capture suits for training.

Yeah but they're a crappy shape for A LOT of tasks. It's not ideal but it's a versatile solution.
