I own both. I'm not so sure.

If you're going to pirate books, it is easy enough to just do it on your iPad or purchase a Boox tablet.

I own an iPad and I've often considered getting a e-ink android tablet just for reading pdfs.

The Amazon Kindle War Against Piracy
