I love the high citation per sentence ratio and couldn't agree more with the sentiment. It seems that, finally, people are starting to verbalize sufficiently direct responses to the AI slop being flung at us from all angles.

Outright rejection won't help with making AI go away. We can only change it, but it is here to stay.

I suspect the cost will rise and we'll start seeing much less of it. As the free tier gets smaller and less useful, I think we'll see the pool of people who use AI casually start to shrink.

Seeing which use-cases make it through will certainly be interesting.

Not trying to "make it go away", though that'd be great, just making another irrelevant technology that I dont interact with.

I think it will be pervasive, like the Internet is pervasive, and will be unavoidable unless you drop off the grid. For better or for worse.

I’ll bet call center workloads stick.

That whole industry is literally just a sweatshop for English language speakers who just follow scripts (prompts) and try to keep customers happy.

Seeing as how so many people volunteer to make meaningful relationships with LLMs as it is, it has to be more effective than talking to a “Bill” or “Cheryl” with a heavy South Asian accent.

No, we can absolutely reject it and destroy it at a fundamental level. LLMs are deeply unprofitable and only exist because of insane amounts of money being set on fire by the richest assholes you know to support stochastic parrots. Otherwise the sheer resource cost would've devoured the companies multiple times other.

The goal by all of these companies is to force you to pay for and eat the slop. That's why they keep inserting it into every subscription, every single app and program you use, and directly on the OS itself. It's like the Sacklers pushing opioids but directly in the open, with similar effects on vulnerable people.

Nobody knows if it's "here to stay". https://tomrenner.com/posts/llm-inevitabilism/ Some of us are still consciously choosing a life with as little slop as possible.

Guess we'll see, but I doubt it.
