I cannot help but read this in the subtext of, “We need more training data from humans; please don’t stop uploading your code to us.”
Look, manual coding (and art, and media, and IT, and others) will always be needed. GenAI was never going to replace these jobs wholesale, or even permanently displace workers. The fact this is trending in an APAC-focused site suggests the real message is, “we don’t want our outsource farms thinking this [GenAI] will replace you.”
Prediction of tokens was never going to lead to AGI. All it’s going to accomplish is instilling a deep, traumatic hostility in the populace towards further automation right when we need it the most.
