So as someone who once converted an entire archive of RAW files to DNG: the resulting DNGs were always larger, and much, much slower. Perhaps because they're TIFFs under the hood, which in my experience are also bloated and slow to load.

I always wondered if the problem was a lack of interest in writing fast decoders for DNGs, or if this was inherent to the format.
