Many "white collar" jobs are bullshit makework for college grads. There is nothing intrinsically valuable in them but they are necessary to keep the population occupied. When the economics become favorable again, there will be another iteration of creating these jobs with subtle ways to make the "career" seem meaningful when in truth they are just made up sinecures.
