I use it to inspect video frames by frames, particularly being able to go back one frame. VLC doesn't support it, this thread about the feature is hilarious https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=120627

Wow, reading this now very old discussion makes me cringe a little bit when I see dingers like these:

There are so many (passive-)aggressive comments in that discussion. This is the primary reason why I never get involved with open source projects any more. The discussions are so toxic. I always wind up feeling terrible about myself after "trying to help" an open source project by reporting bugs or submitting patches to fix bugs.
