It's a former developer that's no longer affiliated with the project since 2021 or thereabouts. They did not part on good terms because he behaved in the same way towards other mpv developers, "my way or the highway".

So you probably shouldn't let anything that old sour your opinion on the current mpv.

(I don't belong to either side, just have been using the player since its inception.)
