Friction comes up--although not under that name--in The Mythical Man Month. (People do still read that, don't they?) One example Brooks gives is the hard drive that goes bad, perhaps losing code, but also preventing people from doing work until it's replaced. (This essay was written about a software project on a main frame, when "the hard drive" was a real thing.)

At least that's how I remember it...
