I'd never met Rick Belluzzo, but having known SGI insiders of his era I gathered that he'd driven the company strongly towards NT on x86 at the cost/risk of losing their corporate and personal UNIX competencies, causing some internal outrage. When his time was up at SGI he quickly popped up at Microsoft running MSN in what I saw as a synecure meant as a pat on the back for a job well done. Am I right on this?

That is a widely held view among Unix nerds like me, at least.

My recollection of that time (I was at SGI when Belluzzo was there).
