It didn't scare me at all. As Google moves away from the open web, the open web also moves away from them.

A concern is that websites vital to people's lives, such as banks and government services, will adopt this to mimic the control they have on mobile platforms. With few brick-and-mortar branches remaining, it leaves few options open.
