Details aside, I think having a PAAS is awesome and something we’re really missing on AWS.

AWS has a PaaS: Elastic Beanstalk.

Though I would forgive you for forgetting about EB since it sometimes feels like AWS's neglected step child.

I was in the same boat until someone made me feel dumb after I smugly said why I moved from aws over to Heroku for a project. Too late for me though on this project.

Weirdly enough no, and Amazon is normally so good and consistant in their naming of products.
