Author here. My thesis is that while AI will raise the general standard of living, it will drastically increase inequality, potentially creating a permanent underclass and "Client States" within ~5 years.

I think so too. It feels very similar to previous technological 'boom' phases – each previous one minted a new stratification of wealth (railroads and Vanderbilt, dotcom and Bezos/Zuck/etc). This is the latest iteration.
