Stoicism has a place. Read Kant and he says all that is required for reason controlling your life is freedom. But many can't handle freedom. Clearly fools can rise to the top in a free society, if the populace is hooked on social media fueled rage and divisiveness.

There's a structural issue with how society (east or west) is organized in that information flows one way from virtues -> action -> consequences.

That doesn't seem compatible with freedom or progress in the highest (astroarchitectural) sense

A better design allows "institutions" to update their "virtues" in accordance with uh reality (it's fashionable to mention "back-propagate" here) without breaking the flow
